Whether you’re starting social media from scratch, or refreshing your feed, WXW can help.
Social media (socials) can quite easily become an overwhelming aspect of your business. Facebook. Instagram. LinkedIn. Twitter. Pinterest. YouTube. There are so many social media platforms out there, the list just goes on and on. Each of them serve their own unique purpose, with their own specific audience.
A major misconception amongst businesses is that they need to be on every platform. For so long, businesses were told that in order for business to thrive, they had to be on social media; they have to be across all platforms in order to get maximum exposure and promote the business. The truth is, it’s unnecessary, too time consuming and exhausting.
This is why bigger companies started to employ full-time social managers. Their sole purpose is to spend their days on every platform following, commenting, liking, sharing, retweeting, messaging, moderating, posting etc.
As a small business, you should be focusing on one or two major platforms.
Example
Carol runs a business selling hand-made scarves. Carol only does this part time, and spends her weekends selling scarves at the local markets.
Is Carol going to need a solid presence on Twitter? No.
Is Carol’s audience going to be looking for her on LinkedIn? Doubtful.
Instagram, Pinterest and Etsy are the platforms that Carol should be considering. These platforms cater towards niche markets such as hand-made textiles. They are platforms that are driven by quality visuals, and Carol would benefit from a visual-based campaign that will promote the product in the best light.
Over time, Carol could consider establishing an online store through Etsy so she can sell her scarves online to a much wider audience.
Once you know who your audience is, and where they’ll be looking for you, you can create a campaign to market your business directly to them. It just doesn’t need to be every social media platform out there.
